The #Experientialist Awards by OutThere was born during the time of COVID-19, seeking to recognise and champion creativity, innovation, resilience and stewardship in the luxury travel industry.

The #Experientialist is our response to everything that is happening right now, our ‘pop-up platform’ to bring feel-good factor, optimism and news to our readers, followers and the luxury travel industry at large under the banner of #KeepYourMindTravelling. We also aim to aid positive mental health – through inspiring and feeding wanderlusts – during the quarantine and highlight the amazing and selfless travel brands that are putting the needs of their staff, customers and the public ahead of their own.

The awards

Our mission is simple: to recognise and champion creativity, innovation, resilience and stewardship in the luxury travel industry, linked closely to our brand pillars of diversity, discovery and discernment. For our inaugural awards, we look to applaud the luxury brands and people from across our beautiful world, that have delivered truly OutThere initiatives – that are feel-good, positive and uplifting – through ingenious activities, original and dynamic campaigns, unparalleled leadership and community-first approaches in their part of the industry.

The categories

Most OutThere travel brand

This category recognises revolutionary, mindful and forward-looking travel brands of all sizes and geographies – from hotels and resorts; to travel designers and tour operators; to cruises and experiences – that have demonstrated unrivalled innovation, creativity and excellence across all aspects of their operations over the months that COVID temporarily paused travel.

Most OutThere campaign

OutThere’s #KeepYourMindTravelling efforts have showcased some truly inspirational campaigns developed over the COVID months, bringing uplifting stories and feel-good factor about the world directly to those who have had to stay home. This category applauds the brands that have come up with ingenious and original campaigns that have kept experiential travel alive, brought smiles to faces and won over hearts and minds.

Most OutThere champion

There have been some selfless individuals and heroes who have shown amazing leadership and driven fantastic initiatives in these unprecedented times – both internal and external – to ensure that their brands not just weather the COVID storm, but also do good for their teams and the communities they operate in. This award recognises the brand champions that have demonstrated groundbreaking stewardship over the months to recovery.

Most OutThere initiative in community, conservation and sustainability

Social responsibility is a core pillar for many of today’s luxury travel brands. And it has been heartwarming to see so many brands continue to champion and garner support for their projects in community, conservation and sustainability, despite having to pause their operations and not receive funding from guest revenue. This category commends the projects that have continued to do good, despite the downturn in travel.

*The winning project will be the recipient of proceeds collected from entry donations.

The OutThere awards

In addition, we are thrilled to showcase six additional and original categories – unrelated to COVID – that celebrate the luxury travel brands, that like us, are rooted in diversity, discovery and discernment at any time. Linked to the six OutThere’s traveller profiles, we are looking for hotels, resorts, cruises, experiences, journeys and itineraries that are not just stellar, but also transformative.

*These awards, after being shortlisted, will be judged by OutThere readers.

The Sophisticate award
Luxurious, taste-making, out of this world properties, journeys and experiences.

The Escapist award
Brands and journeys that celebrate ‘getting away from it all’, wellbeing and peace of mind.

The Culturalist award
Brands with culture at their heart, not just limited to the Arts, but also the local community and destination that they’re in.

The Adventurer award
Brands with a sense of adventure and discovery, that gets travellers into the great outdoors and pushes their boundaries.

The Hedonist award
Simply indulgent, mindblowing properties and experiences rooted in fun and celebration.

The Insider award
Brands centred all around ‘being in the know’ – otherwise hard to access, but made available because of the brand’s innovation, creativity and connections.

Winners for the four #Experientialist awards will be shortlisted and selected by a panel of handpicked judges.

For the six OutThere awards, the shortlist will be decided on by a judging panel and the final winner voted for by OutThere readers.

All winners will be showcased in OutThere’s Spring 2021 issue and online. We hope to be able to host an awards presentation event and celebrate the winners (to coincide with OutThere’s 10th birthday party!), but in this current climate, we will have to wait and see if that is possible.

The prize for each category winner will be a £15,000 / US$18,000 advertising package*, and in addition, the winner of the ‘most OutThere initiative in community, conservation and sustainability’ will receive proceeds of the donations made by entrants.

To enter

We welcome any luxury travel brand to enter the awards: from hotels, resorts and spas, to private air tours, cruises, and trains; travel designers and companies, tour operators and DMCs; to tourist boards and destination marketing organisations. We’d also welcome collaborative entries (for example, a travel company + property), so do consider how partnering up could enhance your entry. Brands are welcome to enter more than one category.

We ask that you consider the OutThere traveller and their needs and wants when making your entry – diversity and inclusion being something that greatly underpins their decision, alongside a boundless sense of discovery and high level of discernment.

Entry is free of charge, but we do ask you to please make a small donation per entry. Proceeds from the donations will go to the winner of the ‘Most OutThere initiative in community, conservation and sustainability’ category.

Entry is simple, we just ask you to summarise your reasons for entering each category on one side of A4, saved as a PDF of not more than 5Mb. On each entry, please start with the category name(s) you are entering; and include the of the brand(s) you are entering plus a contact name, email and phone number. If you are nominating an entry (for example, you’re a PR agency submitting on behalf of a client), please include the nominating company/agency.

If you would like to submit imagery or video to accompany your entry, please package it all up to be downloadable, or provide specific links – and be sure to include the download link at the end of your single-page submission.
